Clerkship Director
Neurology is one of the seven required clerkships for all third-year medical students. The M-3 Neurology clerkship seeks to expose the student to many aspects of clinical neuroscience, including the Inpatient Neurology Ward Service, the Neuroscience ICU at VCU Medical Center, the Neurology Consult Service, and various outpatient clinics. Students have the option of rotating either at VCU Medical Center or Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Hospital. This combination gives the student the opportunity to see a wide diversity of patients.

Specific assignments from attendings and residents may vary.
Requirements:
Students must complete the Neurology Core Lecture Quiz.
Students must complete the Neurology Passport.
Students must complete and have a senior resident/attending fill out the Mid-Rotation Formative Assessment and Feedback form.
Students must complete the observed Neurologic Examination assignment and have a resident or attending sign off.
Responsibilities:
- Each clerk is assigned a minimum of ten patients during the rotation.
- Each clerk is expected to maintain a log of patient assignments complete with diagnosis (passport). This log should also include lumbar punctures performed.
- Each clerk is expected to complete a thorough history and physical examination on each patient assigned, make an assessment, including an appropriate differential diagnosis and assist in the planning of the diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic program of each patient.
- Students are expected to participate in the daily work and teaching rounds. Special attention should be given to patient care and reading.
- Students are expected to assist in pursuing diagnostic studies and therapeutic programs on all ward patients but more especially those for whom they are directly responsible.
- Students are assigned to Neurology outpatient clinics.
- The student is expected to attend all case studies/core lectures.
